The Capuchin father Pio was the first priest with a clear crucifixion stigmata. He was canonized.
He joined the noviciate of the Capuchin friars at the young age of 15, fulfilled his study requirements and was ordained priest in 1910.

It was September of 1920 when Padre Pio received the marks of the Crucifixion as he was kneeling before a large Crucifix. This made him the first priest to have been stigmatized in all of the Catholic Church's history. These wondrous bleeding wounds stayed with him for 50 years, but completely disappeared shortly before his final days.

On June 16th, 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed Padre Pio the SAINT PIO OF PIETRECINA. Today, the Catholic congregation commemorates him September 23rd according to its liturgical calendar.
