Historically, Mongolia is famous for its horse breeding. At the end of the year 2000, 2.6 million horses were counted there. This coin expresses the freedom of these animals as they gallop over the vast steppe.
How significant horses are to the Mongolian people is reflected in their national festival 'Naadam'. The annual event will be held a national competition in wrestling, archery and horse racing. Interestingly, the winner must share his prize with the other four ranks. The prize is awarded to the first five horses who make the race.

The other side of the rectangular coin shows the seal of the central bank with the 'Soyembo', the national symbol of Mongolia's freedom and independence. To the right of it is a temple, the main building of the castle museum of the former King Bogd Gegen in Ulaan Baatar, the capital of Mongolia.
